In an exclusive feature for the RZD-Partner magazine, Alexander Millerman, Vice President of the St. Petersburg Exchange, explains how route changes, increased transshipments, and intermediate storage affect insurance risk assessment in logistics.

According to the expert, extending delivery routes increases the period of insurer liability alongside a rise in the value of goods in transit.

Intermediary storage converts a typical set of cargo risks into property risks, leading to higher deductibles and stricter requirements for packaging, sealing, and storage durations and conditions along the route.

Millerman notes that current tariff levels are not at a peak: maritime tariffs are determined by the frequency of incidents rather than by past-year statistics. The article also presents the views of Maria Popova, CEO of WEVED; Mikhail Chushkov, CEO of Pooling; and Pavel Evstratov, Director of the Center for Transportation Risk Insurance at Capital-Polis.
