Year-to-date sugar trading volume through mid-August reached 30,400 tonnes, 60 tonnes above the full-year 2025 total of 30,340 tonnes.
In 2026 sugar is traded with delivery bases located in seven Russian regions: Bryansk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Penza, Tambov regions, and Krasnodar Krai.
The Petersburg Exchange has implemented measures to lower entry barriers and reduce trading costs, including lowering margin requirements on developing markets in the Agricultural Products and Bioresources section from 5% to 0.1% of the trade value from May 18, 2026, and providing an exemption from participation fees through December 31, 2026 for participants in the Trading Visitor category.
Igor Chernyshov, Senior Managing Director of Petersburg Exchange, stated that the growth in sugar sales demonstrates strong demand for the exchange mechanism and that services for clients are continuously being improved.
