The first batches of diesel fuel and aviation kerosene were sold on SPIMEX on September 23, 2008. Since then, the exchange has grown into the largest market for trading strategic commodities, with over 358 million tonnes of petroleum products, 12 million tonnes of oil, 145 billion cubic meters of gas, and 34 million cubic meters of timber sold since 2008.
Under the Strategy 2024–2028, SPIMEX is expanding into new markets, with trading developing in petrochemistry, coal, metals, construction materials, and agro-industrial complex products.
Today the exchange operates as a multifunction holding that combines services for exchange and over-the-counter trading, procurement under 223-FZ, OTC contract registration, and the provision of logistics and information services. The exchange serves as a conduit for government policy to promote competition and broaden access to raw materials and producers. SPIMEX forms enduring partnerships with foreign exchanges and builds the infrastructure for foreign economic activity and exploration of new markets.
