The Petersburg Exchange seminar prepared Finance University professors for the start of the Brokers School. On the second day, specialists presented the work of commodity sections, trading processes, exchange clearing, broker activities, and international projects to the faculty.
Andrey Porshakov spoke about the structure of the Russian gas market, how the gas transmission system operates, and how commercial balancing works. He noted that launching balancing trades for gas volumes not picked by consumers under off-exchange contracts would help address market challenges on a broader horizon.
Alexey Ryzhikov, Senior Managing Director of the Exchange, outlined commodity trading in timber and the organization of export shipments of wood—from contract signing to transportation and delivery to the buyer. Attention was given to digital deal support, integration of exchange infrastructure with the Railway operator and interaction with the FGIS LK.
Ekaterina Belousova, Senior Managing Director, elaborated on international cooperation: more than 25 agreements have been signed with exchanges and trade associations from various countries. In 2026, at the initiative of the Petersburg Exchange, the International Association of Commodity and Futures Exchanges (IACFE) was created and registered, including eight exchanges from seven countries, with planned expansion.
Tatiana Aksenova, Deputy Managing Director – Head of Operational Activities, demonstrated real-time trading and the operation of the SET commodity market game server designed for training and participation in Petersburg Exchange trading.
Igor Brykalin presented the process for introducing new goods to exchange trading, detailing four stages of project implementation: initiation, preparation, execution and completion; he also described the clearing of obligations under exchange contracts.
Dmitry Mironov, Chairman of the NAUTOR Council, defined the concepts of commodity broker and trader and described interaction among association members, the Exchange, brokers, and clients.
In summary, the seminar was described by Andrey Kashvarov as an important milestone in our cooperation with the university, providing insights into openness of trading, market interconnections, transparency and public nature, with attendees representing faculty members who are well-versed in the topic. The Exchange continues to develop and expand its markets and services.
