The Petersburg Exchange continues to develop its export trading in the 'Forest and Construction Materials' section and to expand cooperation with partners in the Russian Federation’s partner country, the PRC. Discussions between Denis Permyakov and Sergey Kostromin with a delegation from the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation in the PRC, led by Deputy Trade Representative Sergey Sharyonov, highlighted prospects for attracting new buyers from the PRC and expanding the range of products delivered to East Asia.
One concrete result was the first exchange deal for the sale of sulfate bleached pulp from softwood, with AO Ilim Group acting as seller—having previously participated in trading at the Exchange only as a buyer. Delivery is in containers to the Zabaykalsk export station and is currently in transit. In the near term, new contracts are planned.
The number of foreign participants in the section is also expanding. To date, 14 Chinese companies are registered in the 'Forest and Construction Materials' section, and registration of new buyers continues. Deliveries involve several dozen dispatch points in the Siberian and Far Eastern Federal Districts, as well as four supply bases—balance points—in the PRC.
"The Chinese market shows sustained interest in Russian forest products, and the exchange mechanism provides buyers from the PRC with transparent terms of deals and guarantees their execution. We see that the number of registered Chinese companies is growing. Interaction with the Trade Representation helps us find new reliable partners and better understand their requests," noted Denis Permyakov, Petersburg Exchange representative in the Far East and in the PRC.
"The export trading direction is developing consistently. We are expanding the range, testing new delivery methods, and creating for Russian producers a clear and protected channel to external markets. The first pulp deal showed that this path is in demand not only for roundwood, but for products of deep processing," stressed Sergey Kostromin, head of the Market Development in Forestry and Forest Materials at the Petersburg Exchange.
Main advantages of forest materials trading via the Petersburg Exchange include: transparency and openness of deals—everything runs on a standardized platform, excluding shadow schemes; financial security guarantees—the Exchange acts as guarantor of payment and timely delivery; control and accounting of timber—the ability to track origin and movement of products through the federal accounting system (FGIS LK); expansion of trade geography—participation is possible from many Russian regions across the country; support for export operations using modern logistics mechanisms (OTP RZD).
The Exchange’s social media presence is available at: VKontakte, Dzen, T-pulse.
