According to data from the Petersburg Exchange, natural gas trading on SPIMEX totaled 8.885 bcm over the first eight months of 2026; in August, the monthly volume of gas sales across three balancing points exceeded 1 bcm.
Compared with the eight months of the previous year, the eight‑month trading volume was 11.9% lower.
On trades with gas deliveries for the “next month” period, 3.469 bcm (39% of the total) were realized; deliveries for the “day” and “non-working day n” amounted to 5.420 bcm (61%). Resales of volumes not chosen by buyers amounted to 0.205 bcm. The turnover in the trading section totaled 30.837 billion rubles.
In August, volumes of contracts concluded in the trading mode “Sale NOS” (unselected and unrealized volumes of gas purchased by the Balancing Buyer) amounted to 0.3 million cubic meters. Sergey Trofimenko, the Managing Director for Markets of Gas and Electricity at the Petersburg Exchange, noted that the Balancing Buyer’s purchase of unselected volumes from previously concluded exchange contracts and their non‑execution at organized trades is an important element of the commercial balancing system, enabling the closure of commodity balances under exchange contracts and eliminating the risk of residual exchange gas in the gas distribution system at the end of the delivery month.
