In seven months of 2026, the total turnover of metal products in the Petersburg Exchange's 'Metals and Alloys' section surpassed 100,000 tonnes, already exceeding 2025's total of 98.7 thousand tonnes.

The largest volume traditionally came from reinforcing bar (rebar) at 73,000 tonnes, with rolled products accounting for 30.6 thousand tonnes. Also traded were 4.25 thousand tonnes of ferrous scrap, 1.19 thousand tonnes of sheet rolled products, 100 tonnes of tube products, and 20 tonnes of construction profiles.

In 2026, new commodity positions were introduced to trading: equal-leg angles and structural channels, reinforcing wire, steel forgings and stainless steel rounds, steel strip, freight ropes, and the first deal for titanium rolled products for general technical use. Industry leaders have brought their products to the exchange; in spring 2026, pipes and hot-rolled products were brought to trade by the OMK Group.

Expanding the Metals and Alloys section is viewed as a key step in developing the exchange market. Producers are keen to bring new goods to the exchange, buyers gain direct access to a broad range, and trading volumes confirm strong participant interest. The appearance of new positions creates conditions for forming representative price indicators on the Russian metals market. Since May 18, 2026, the Petersburg Exchange has lowered margin requirements on developing markets by 50 times—from 5% to 0.1% of the contract value. Also, until December 31, 2026, companies categorized as 'Visitors to trading' are exempt from participation fees. The marketing period covers the Metals and Alloys section.
