A leading wool producer in Kalmykia evaluated the advantages of wool trading on the Petersburg Exchange. The Exchange provides a mechanism enabling wool producers to realize the commodity under maximum competition from buyers. This meeting between Exchange representatives and the management of JSC Plemyzavod Chernozemelsky (Republic of Kalmykia) focused on discussing new opportunities for selling product through the Exchange.

"We highly value the exchange mechanism; we are discussing with the Exchange new opportunities to increase the sale of our products," said Román Erdni-Goryaev, CEO of JSC Plemyzavod Chernozemelsky. "Exchange trading contributes to the transparent determination of the real value of quality raw material, strengthens trust between seller and buyers. We plan to pilot various regimes and types of exchange auctions. We expect the Exchange to generate a fair price for the product of our labor."

Kalmykia is one of the key wool-producing regions in Russia.

According to Dmitry Chernyshov, Vice President of the Petersburg Exchange, in the section 'Agricultural products and bioresources' since the start of trading on 16 April 2026 through September inclusive, about 86 tons of wool of various sorts and qualities have been sold. More than 15 companies have been accredited on the Exchange. Across different delivery bases, average prices were: unwashed wool — 85 RUB/kg; wool that has undergone initial cleaning — 237 RUB/kg.

"We organized wool trading this year as part of the tasks set by the Government. We continue to expand the circle of participants and the range of exchange goods. The Exchange advocates a comprehensive approach: trading the full range of industry products—from live cattle and sheep meat to hides, wool, and by-products of wool processing (fertilizers)," said Dmitry Chernyshov.

He also noted that the Exchange has introduced a marketing period with waivers of entry fees for the 'Visitor' category in the 'Agricultural products and bioresources' section.

According to experts, implementing exchange-based sales reduces selling costs by about three times. The Exchange's strategic objective is to reach wool sales on exchange trades of at least 30% of its production.

For market participants, the Exchange regularly conducts seminars, training events and consultations, including in cooperation with authorities of the constituent regions.
