Since September 30, the Petersburg Exchange’s National Price Agency has launched survey-based polypropylene price indicators based on the Moscow region CPT basis. The indicators cover: homopolymer: raffia, injection molding, filament, film; block copolymer: injection molding, extrusion; random copolymer: injection molding, extrusion. The methodology for calculating the indicators is published on the Exchange site Exchange site.

The indicators are usable as price references for participants in the wholesale polymer market and may be used in business planning. They are developed within the framework of national price indicator development for petrochemical products. polypropylene price indicators inaugurate the Exchange’s line of survey indicators. Subsequent additions will cover other polymers: polyethylene, polystyrene, synthetic rubbers, and other petrochemical goods. The values of new indicators are published in the industry review ‘Polypropylene’, available on the SPX information-analytical platform. This gives users both price indicators and analytical commentary including volumes of exchange trades and production, market news, — noted Vladlena Rubtsova, Senior Managing Director of the Petersburg Exchange.

Data for calculating the polypropylene indicators are collected by the National Price Agency’s experts through market surveys. They are calculated by double averaging: first the average surveyed quotations across individual production sites, then the indicator’s mean value for the polypropylene grade. Andrey Vondrukhov, Managing Director of the Petersburg Exchange, said: ‘We applied the best practices of Petersburg Exchange index management to this new data source – the survey quotes. The methodology is openly published and describes in detail all steps from selecting information providers and ensuring data quality to regular calculation checks and actions in nonstandard situations.’

The methodology for calculating the indicators is published on the Exchange site. More information about the polymer market is available in the Agency’s reviews: ‘Polyethylene’, ‘Propylene’, ‘Polyvinyl chloride’, ‘PET and recycled PET’, ‘Polystyrene and ABS plastics’, ‘Synthetic rubbers and latex’.
