The Petersburg Exchange reported the first batch of dichloroethane: 50 tonnes of technical-grade 1,2-dichloroethane were sold at 114,000 rubles per tonne. Delivery will be by tanker from Kozyakovka station within 40 days from the date of the contract.
Dichloroethane is a key chlorinated intermediate in large-scale chemical production; it is a primary feedstock for vinyl chlorides, which, after polymerization, form polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a plastic used widely. It is also used to produce ethylene glycols and other organic-chemistry products; it is employed as a solvent for plastics, and in the oil and gas industry for paraffin removal from petroleum products.
"The appearance of dichloroethane on trading floors is an important development because the role of this product for a range of industries is difficult to overestimate. The Exchange is actively expanding its range of chemical products and expects that trading will become a demanded instrument in the market for organic-chemistry goods," said Igor Chernyshov, Senior Managing Director of the Petersburg Exchange.
